The Iowa Department for the Blind is a state ran agency that offers a multitude of services ranging from a business enterprises program that gives the blind and visually impaired a chance to run their own food service business, to a library for the blind and print disabled that provides books in accessible formats (braille, large print, digital, and audio) as well as a transcription service.

Iowa Radio Reading Information Service (IRIS)

IRIS is a free service to visually impaired and print-disabled residents of the state of Iowa, that provides listeners with audio versions of the local newspaper everyday.

Iowa Educational Services for the Blind & Visually Impaired

Located: 3501 Harry Langdon Blvd, Council Bluffs, IA 51503

Iowa Educational Services for the Blind & Visually Impaired is an outreach program that works via itinerant to serve Iowa’s visually impaired youth (ages birth – 21) in most of Iowa’s school districts. Staff not only visits schools as need but works with school faculty to ensure your student receives to proper resources and attention. This includes equipment recommendations, advocacy support, and assistive technology and braille training.
