The Chicago Lighthouse is a social services organization that offers over 40 different programs and services for the blind and visually impaired. These services include an adult living skills program that builds independence and self sufficiency, a radio information service that provides audio transcriptions of newspapers and articles, various youth and senior programs, and a selection of job readiness and work placement programs.

The Central Illinois Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired

The Central Illinois Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired is an organization that offers residents of Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties a variety of programs and services that include a white cane clinic where clients are provided a white cane as well as orientation and mobility lessons from a certified instructor, a technology help center where clients are trained in accessible technology as well as help with tech you might already own. The center also offers social programs that include field trips, bingo and other games in either braille or large print.

Second Sense

Second Sense is an organization that helps blind and visually impaired residents of the Chicago area reach independence and self sustainability through a selection of programs that include assistive technology training where clients learn to use a pc along with screen readers and magnification tools, an orientation and mobility program where clients learn to safely get around with a white cane, and a self defense course designed specifically for the visually impaired.

Mary Bryant Home for the Blind

Location: 2960 Stanton St, Springfield, IL 62703

The Mary Bryant Home for the Blind is a full time residency program that offers those 22 years or older with vision loss beyond 20/70 vision a safe and supportive place to live. The campus includes 37 studio apartments and 3 full sized suites. Each room is fitted with uv resistant room darkening curtains, Wi-Fi, temperature control, and an emergency call button. The campus has multiple common areas such as a library, dining hall, and a fitness center where residents are encouraged to interact and socialize.
